The mod essentially works by removing the 30fps block and largely disabling the v-sync, allowing Skyrim to take advantage of the extra power of the Series S and X consoles (where backwards compatibility forces the v-sync to return). In this case we have a true 4K60 and it is great to see that the experience through a user mod that we previously tested on Digital Foundry is now fully officialized with FPS Boost – although it is worth noting that they use two different techniques to achieve this target. The Fallout titles are a little controversial then, but at least it was great to be back in Skyrim. Despite a big gap in their respective graphics capabilities, both Xbox Series S and X consoles run these titles at 1080p, in order to reach 60 frames per second, despite the Xbox One X targeting 4K. Skyrim lands exactly where we expected and works beautifully overall, but the Fallout titles are a little more confusing. Our coverage continues with a look at the Bethesda Games Studio titles running on the Creation Engine and the impressions are a little more confusing this time around. We passed the ruler and square over the first wave of titles with Microsoft’s FPS Boost and were impressed, while our thoughts for the duo Prey and Dishonored Definitive Edition developed by Arkane were perhaps even more exciting.
